Description
Qajar-era, the helmet handwrought as a demon’s head, with pronounced eyebrows, eyes and nose, with separately applied horns, mustache, nasal and topspike, and finely inlaid overall with silver in intricate geometrical patterns. The camail of butted rings terminating in three points.
The round steel shield with applied fretted border and four bosses with fretted borders,
intricately inlaid in silver en suite with the helmet, together with gold highlights and bands of Persian poetry around a central floral disk. Both helmet and shield retain their original cotton lining. 19th century. Condition II
