Description
A quality example of a rare bronze cannon, with integral trunnions, the rail swivel intact. The tiller with aperture for wooden haft, with molded rings and band of okir embellishment to the cascabel, the vent and rear sight wrought in relief. With a raised device of a Gordian knot, together with two incised Arabic characters, dal and lam (D and L.) The muzzle flared and finely molded, with triangular panels of okir decoration. Mid-19th century or earlier. In common use by Moro pirates in the Sulu Sea, very well documented by the Spanish government during raids on Mindanao. Overall length 87.5cm. Patinaed overall. Condition III
