Description
A rare, provenanced relic found on the field at Balaclava by the Earl of Glasgow in 1891 and so recorded on the engraved silver plaque fixed to the pommel. Imperial Russian forces captured numerous French AN XI cavalry sabers following Napoleon’s retreat. These swords were copied at Imperial arsenals, and both French captures and Russian copies were issued to troopers as the Russian Model 1826 cavalry saber. In relic condition with illegible marks struck at forte and guard. Early 18th century. Overall length 101.5 cm. Condition V.
