Description
An exceptional pair of guards for the shoulders likely worn on parade by a ruler or high-ranking officer. Wrought entirely of copper, elaborately embossed and engraved with flowering vine motifs overall, with separately applied flames, each finely profiled and engraved. Both guards heavily gilded throughout. 17th-18h century. Rubbing to gilding, one applied flame with minor separation at the seam. Overall length 23.7 cm. Condition III
