Description
Shield-shaped, all silver construction with finely-engraved and nielloed neoclassical and nationalistic motifs characteristic of Epiros, featuring the helmeted goddess Athena holding a spear in one hand and a crescent moon in the other, flanked by owls and a pair of armored saints. The hinged cap with pierced tab. With a belt loop and engraved rococo borders to the reverse, and inscribed in Greek, AP:KO BAKRAKOZ 1842. Beginning of the 19th century. The owner likely took part in the 3 September 1843 Revolution, the coup in which King Otto was compelled to grant the Greek Constitution of 1844. Height 11.3cm. Condition II
