Description
The elegant hilt wrought of steel inlaid overall in gold and silver vinework, the fine, long, undulating, single-edged blade wrought of finely-patterned wootz steel, with characteristic bifurcated and profiled tip, and profusely inlaid with gold, including the Arabic invocations, YA MUHAMMAD (O Muhammad!) and YA ‘ALI (O, ‘Ali!) together with an extensive inscription spanning the length of the blade. Retains its sharp edge. In its later velvet-covered wooden scabbard. 19th century. Light wear. Overall length 91.5 cm. Condition II
