Description
The akinakes was made famous by the nomadic Scythians, adopted by the Persians and ultimately, the Greeks. Handwrought of iron with guard of lobate type and T-form pommel, the double-edged, tapering blade terminating in a point. 5th-3rd century b.c.e. Excavated; grip scales lacking. Overall length 26.5 cm. Alexander the Great defeated the Scythians (or Saccae) at the Battle of Jaxartes in 329 b.c.e. Condition V
