Description
Of classic form, the fine, deep green jade grip with rolled pommel and intricately-carved lotus motifs, with large, heavily-gilded guard. The single-edged heirloom blade with long backedge wrought of finely-patterned silver wootz damascus steel, inlaid in gold at the forte on each side with a pair of Mughal imperial banners with trisula finials and baduhs (magic squares) containing Sanskrit characters above two large gold cartouches containing illegible inscriptions and the date, 1210 (1795/6 c.e.) In its later woven fabric-covered wooden scabbard with gilt braid. Dated 1795/6. Blade with minor pitting. Overall length 86.5cm. Condition III
