Description
An early European interpretation of the mameluke saber. Mounted entirely in silver, the hilt with integral knucklebow, the langets engraved with a stand of arms including a banner bearing the St. George cross. Mounted with a robust Persian trophy blade. In its leather scabbard with en suite silver mounts. Late 18th-early 19th century. A quite similar example of this rare type belonging to Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington is on view at the Wellington Museum, Apsley House, London. Light wear. Overall length 87 cm. Condition III
