Description
Likely English, the graceful hilt finely forged of oval-section bars, the lower loops set with steel plates, with large, recurved quillons and faceted fig-shaped pommel. The wrenched wooden grip retains its original wire wrap with silver turksheads. The exceptionally long, double-edged blade forged with a rectangular forte struck at either side with faint maker’s marks, of diamond-section and tapering continuously to the acute tip. Early 17th century. Minor wear, one turkshead knot repaired. Overall length 136.2cm. Condition II
