Description
The dark horn grips carved with lineal borders, terminating in a scrolled pommel and retained by three bosses chiseled with flowers and gold-inlaid, the steel tangband chiseled en suite with a stag pursued by a hound among trees on a gold-inlaid ground. Fitted at the right forte with a well-wrought flintlock pistol with pop-out trigger, the mechanism protected by an applied steel guard, the thick, tapering turn-off barrel with decorative band at the muzzle. The blade lightly-curved and single-edged, with broad central fuller, terminating is an acute tip with backedge, and engraved at the forte on each side with scrolling, flowers and a stag. In its fitted, leather-covered wooden scabbard with steel suspension band and chape. Mid-18th century. Mild pitting. Overall length 76.2cm. CONDITION III
