Description
An exceptional example, the polished horn grips with large, rolled pommel carved overall in an imbricated pattern, the steel tangband and guard richly inlaid in geometrical motifs in silver. The massive Persian blade finely fullered and skillfully-wrought of dramatically-patterned black wootz, and lavishly inlaid with finely calligraphed Qur’anic texts in complex panels at each forte, along each side of the spine, and down the entire right fuller in high-karat gold; it further bears the chiseled signature ASSAD ALLAH at the right forte. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with silver-inlaid steel mounts en suite with the hilt. Latter 18th-early 19th century. Light wear. Overall length 107.4cm. Condition II
