Description
The hilt of characteristic form, with iron Norman type 86 hilt, incorporating wrenched and recurved quillons and knucklebow with flared terminals and a shallow, fluted cupguard surmounted by a separately applied wrenched ring guard, the fig-form pommel chiseled with a spiral motif. The wooden grip of oval section retaining its velvet covering. The long, well-wrought blade of hexagonal section with acute tip. Second quarter of the 17th century. Minor wear, grip wire lacking. Overall length 111.8cm. Condition II
