Description
A high-quality example fitted with a rare flintlock mechanism produced by the well-known English maker Joseph Manton in small numbers for the East India Company and so marked on the lockplate, together with the date, 1799. The hardwood stock of characteristic form, fitted with a fine Persian damascus steel octagonal barrel with chiseled motifs for its entire length and swamped muzzle, retained by a series of brass bands. Retains its woven sling and ramrod. First quarter of the 19th century. Worn. Overall length 123.5cm. Condition III
