Description
An early and very rarely encountered pistol of characteristic form, the hardwood stock inlaid with geometrical mother of pearl plaques, the pommel cap of steel inlaid with brass. With robust miquelet lock and dramatically-patterned pattern-welded barrel with inlaid band decoration and swamped muzzle. Mid-17th century. Minor wear, trigger guard a working-life addition. Overall length 34.5 cm. Pistols of this type were notably present during the Ottoman-Safavid War (1623-29) and the Siege of Vienna (1683.) Condition III
