Description
Georgian work in the Circassian style, made for a Russian officer during the Murid Wars. The horn grips with finely engraved and nielloed silver mounts. The broad, handwrought, fullered and double-edged blade with paired maker’s mark to the obverse fort. The leather-covered wooden scabbard with well engraved and nielloed silver mounts en suite with the hilt; the locket reverse inscribed, KAVKAZ 1859 G(ODA- Year, ) and retaining its horn-gripped by-knife. Dated 1859. Blade scuffed, velvet worn. Overall length 51.5cm. Condition II
