Description
A form popular in the Caribbean amongst both gentlemen and pirates, the moderately deep cup with rolled edge, the guard, knucklebow and pommel with chiseled foliate motifs, the helical wooden grip retains its twisted iron wire and turkshead knots. Double-edged tapering blade with a narrow central fuller at the forte. Retains its russet finish overall. 17th century. Ex- Robert Riggs Collection. Riggs (1896-1970) was a major American illustrator popular primarily between c. 1920-1940. Overall length 114.3cm. Condition II
