Description
Early Qajar Dynasty work of fine quality, comprising a helmet of classic form with chiseled and inlaid spike finial, plume holders and captured nasal, the skull with fine pierced work backed with silver panels and bordered in brass studs throughout, the rim with chiseled Qur’anic passages inlaid in silver and showing evidence of wootz forging, with characteristic camail terminating in a series of points. The shield decorated en suite with the helmet, with four inlaid central bosses and applied brass rim, finely pierced, backed with silver panels and bordered in brass studs, the rim with chiseled Qur’anic passages inlaid in silver and showing evidence of wootz forging. Beginning of the 19th century. Minor losses to camail. Shield diameter 46.8cm.
