An unusually fine Revolutionary-era example of Epirus workmanship, the entire stock of silver, chiseled, engraved and nielloed in intricate baroque motifs involving garlands and floral sprays, with rare Greek inscription at the left breech, {7} 7 Delta Gamma (DG.) The European lock with stepped plate and elegantly-formed cock with engraved borders. The barrel chiseled in relief in neoclassical motifs at the breech. Late 18th-early 19th century. Overall length 35.4 cm. In Greek Orthodox symbolism, 7 signifies Completeness and Totality. The initials are those of the owner; the inscription can also be read as July 7, (18) 15 in the Attic system. Condition II
