Description
The horn grips carved with chevrons and embellished with brass bosses and tangband. The brass guard of characteristic form with rolled quillons terminating in split palmettes borrowed from the Ottoman palette. The leather-covered wooden scabbard with brass mounts, engraved en suite with the hilt. The broad, lightly curved, single-edged and multifullered heirloom blade with pronounced back edge and king’s head mark of the Wundes family of armorers, likely Johannes Wundes the Younger (1578-1650) struck at the forte. 17th- 18th century. Light wear. Overall length 96.8cm. Condition II
