The hardwood grip with pommel carved in the form of a Bektashi turban, with brass ferrule and characteristic multifullered and bellied blade. In its leather-covered wooden sheath. Mid-19th c. Minor wear. The Bektashis were among the most influential dervish sects in the Ottoman Empire, known to accompany the Janisarries into battle unarmed. Overall length 33cm. Condition III
