The akinakes was made famous by the nomadic Scythians, adopted by the Persians and ultimately, the Greeks. Handwrought of iron with guard of lobate type with rare spiral chiseled motifs representing ram’s horns and signifying potency, and T-form pommel, the double-edged, tapering blade terminating in a point. 5th-3rd century b.c.e. Excavated; grip scales lacking. Overall length 44cm. Alexander the Great defeated the Scythians (or Saccae) at the Battle of Jaxartes in 329 b.c.e. Condition V
