Description
The akinakes was made famous by the nomadic Scythians, adopted by the Persians and ultimately, the Greeks. Handwrought of iron with guard of lobate type and early ram’s horn-type pommel, the straight, double blade terminating in a point. 5th-3rd century b.c.e. Excavated; grip scales lacking. Overall length 37.3cm. Alexander the Great defeated the Scythians (or Saccae) at the Battle of Jaxartes in 329 b.c.e. Condition V
