Description
The characteristically-complex hilt forged with flattened, profiled and dovetailed steel branches and integral thumbring. The rare brass “cat’s head” pommel embellished with central spoked wheel decoration, the wooden grip with original wire wrap. The broad, continuously-tapering, double-edged blade wrought with narrow fuller, and struck with clustered crescent moon marks to each side. Second half of the 17th century. Guard slightly loose, worn overall. Overall length 101.1cm. Condition III
