Description
The elegant iron hilt wrought with fully-modeled parrot’s head pommel set with rubies and elaborately inlaid in flowering vine motifs overall in gold. The graceful blade of Northern or Muslim form with pronounced T-back and chamfered edge, with gold-inlaid panel to the forte, forged of the finest Persian Kara Taban or brilliant black wootz damascus steel, displaying a prominent ladder pattern with fine original finish overall. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard bound with gilt braid. First half of the 18th century. Slight staining to forte, scabbard well worn. Overall length 55.2cm. Condition II
