Description
A classic form produced in Damascus, with silver pommel and rare, fibrous horn grips set with studs and silver wire wrap to base, the silvered guard engraved. The fine Persian heirloom blade forged of actively-grained wootz, and engraved at the right forte with cartouches inlaid in gold, the upper with the name and title of Shah Abbas of Iran, ABBAS SHAH BANDE-YE VILAYET (r. 1588-1629,) in the lower, WORK OF ASSAD ALLAH. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with steel mounts inlaid with silver en suite with the hilt. Mid-19th century. Guard a working-life replacement, some hilt studs lacking, upper scabbard section cracked through, wear to leather. Overall length 94.5cm. Condition IV
