Description
Wrought entirely of steel with flanged head and hexagonal socket decorated with punchwork, on a steel haft with flanged butt. 17th century or later. Corroded. Overall length 59cm. The pernach was typically worn through the belt at the small of the back, where it was both concealed and easily accessible. It was popular with Cossacks as well as Tatars. Condition V
