Description
With massive walrus grips of Balkan form, the elaborate tangband and bolsters gilded. The broad, single-edged recurved blade with narrow fullers, inscribed in a silver cartouche, WORK OF HASSAN, OWNER SAHAT ALI and the year, 1221 (1805/6 c.e.) together with a poetic couplet, the reverse with geometrical designs. The leather-covered wooden scabbard with massive embossed and engraved silver mounts, the locket set with fluted corals and turquoises, the chape with a fine and unusual lion’s head finial. Dated 1805/6. Worn overall, short crack to tangband, some corals replaced. Overall length 77.3cm. Condition III
