Description
A very rare, early type with characteristic waisted and fluted elephant grip, the broad, lightly-curved and double-edged blade of lenticular section, forged of Istanbul Beyaz, or Istanbul White wootz damascus steel. Mid-17th century. A number of daggers of this highly-identifiable type were captured in 1683 when the Ottomans were routed at the Siege of Vienna. Overall length 30.5cm. Condition II
