The brass grip-plates bearing the seals of the former South African republics, Orange Free State and Transvaal, with the Boer motto: EENDRACHT MAAKT MACHTE (UNITY MAKES POWER.) Reverse with well-detailed portraits of Boer statesman and hero, Paul Kruger, president of the South African Republic 1883-1902, and Christiaan de Wet, general and rebel. The two blades lightly pitted. First quarter of the 20th century. Overall length open 17.5 cm.
