Description
A massive example, the hilt finely carved of a single section of walrus and set with a high-karat gold monogram with the Cyrillic letters G N, the scabbard deeply engraved and superbly nielloed overall, and set with an oval walrus boss inlaid with gold on each suspension band. Signed on the reverse of the locket by the craftsman, WORK OF AMIN and dated 1323 a.h. (1904/5c.e.) together with other inscriptions. The fine multifullered, blade with radiused tip retaining its original bright polish and inscribed at the right forte with the name, G. VARSHA. Dated 1905/6c.e. Overall length 97.4cm. Condition I
