Description
A type closely associated with the Siege of Vienna in 1683, the steel head of characteristic form with flaring hammer and curved, profiled back-spike, finely inlaid overall with characteristic interlacing vinework and the Ottoman tamga, and inscribed OWNER TANAS ALI. The wooden haft finely polychromed overall in bands of flowering vinework. Mid-17th century. Worn overall, head cleaned, haft with losses to lacquer, particularly at the butt. Overall length 49.7cm.
