Description
Likely made in Hyderabad for a Hadhrami client, the fine hilt wrought entirely in silver, of characteristic form with knuckle chains intact, and inscribed with the name of the owner on the pommel, AHMAD BARAJ BEK SADAR. Mounted with a long, fullered and hollowground single-edged blade with back edge, expanding substantially at the tip. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard with fine, large, en suite mounts of engraved and pierced silver underlaid with copper, retaining its fine gilt and beaded tassels. Late 18th-early 19th century. Minor wear, scabbard refreshed. Overall length 91.6cm. Condition II
