Description
Cuban work, the distinctive hilt with horn grips, the fingerstalls and hooked pommel known as the “Guanabacoa” type (after the township in eastern Havana.) Mounted with a broad, straight, single-edged blade with angled tip, marked at the right forte LUCKHAUS & GUNTHER/ REMSCHEID/ A GARANTIA 2870 with the Agnus Dei mark. Late 19th century. Well worn. Luckhaus & Gunther produced blades for Cuba beginning in 1895, the first year of the final Cuban War of Independence. Overall length 84.8cm. Condition III
