A rare type, Zand Dynasty, the dark horn grips with distinctive angular pommel suggesting a transitional form between karabela and fully-developed spherical Ottoman type, set with three large bosses and steel guard showing traces of wootz pattern. The fine, long, broad blade of shallow curvature with a broad and narrow fuller and distinct back edge to each side, forged of very fine Persian Kara Taban wootz, and inscribed with two cartouches at the right forte, the upper reading, WORK OF MU’ALEM, and the lower with a representation of a lion or dog.
