Description
South German or Austrian, very well maintained and retaining a smooth, bright steel surface alternating with blackened panels throughout. Comprising a fine burgonet with rare high, finely-wrought peak, pivoting visor, hinged cheeks, neck-lames and plumeholder, all with embossed scalloped borders in bright steel, and broad gorget with rolled borders. Breastplate with central ridge and alternating bright and blackened panels. The backplate en suite, connecting to the breastplate with straps and a waist belt. With complete arm defenses, the spaulders of seven lames terminating in bright scalloped borders, the upper canons of two lames, the inner arms protected by winged couters, the lower canons en suite with rolled edges. The well-articulated gauntlets composed of seven plates in addition to the fingers and thumb. The fauld and tassets composed of three plates each, the tassets terminating in bright embossed scalloped edges. Each cuisse composed of a single plate, each knee cop constructed of four plates with wings. The finely formed greaves with sprung catches, the multiple-lame sabatons of kuhmaul or cowmouth style with expanded toe, following the civilian fashion of the period. Mid-16th century. General wear, poleyns associated in period, possible restorations to tassets, one gauntlet well-restored, some straps replaced, leather friable, black finish rubbed. Overall height on 198cm.
