Description
An excellent example of the type, the grip and pommel completely covered in silver. The disk pommel engraved overall and retains its green braided tassel, suggesting the owner had performed the Hajj. The grip finely wrought of silver in an embossed repeating diamond pattern. The earlier form steel guard with expanded quillons and langets very well wrought. Mounted with a rare long, straight, double-edged blade with triple fullers, etched with a snake amongst foliate panels on one side and a crescent moon amongst stars above a foliate panel on the other, and retains some original sharpness. The tooled leather scabbard with filigreed silver locket and chape, the suspension bands covered in white crocodile hide retain their triangular talismans. Baldric intact. Minor wear. Overall length 112cm. Condition II
