Description
A type closely associated with the Siege of Vienna in 1683, the steel head of characteristic form with flaring hammer and curved, profiled back-spike, finely inlaid overall with characteristic interlacing vinework in silver together with the Ottoman tamga, together with a later inscription to an owner who likely captured it, OWNER MELEM ALI YEAR 1243 (1827 C.E.) The wooden haft covered in black leather with characteristic binding, the mounts of silver with beaded borders. Mid-17th century. Light wear overall. Overall length 65cm. Condition II
