Description
Zand Dynasty, with shirmani grips of elegant form. The broad, recurved blade with T-back and raised, chamfered edge, intricately chiseled at the forte and spine in flowering vinework outlined in gold, and forged of superior Persian black wootz, the spine intricately chiseled and inlaid with gold, KAR-E ALLAH (THE WORK OF GOD) The bolsters inlaid with gold vinework, the tangband delicately inlaid in gold with sinuous interlocking palmettes and set with a hinged toggle inscribed YA ALLAH! YA MUHAMMAD! in gold. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with wootz mounts likewise inlaid with gold, the locket with a rectangular window which allows the inscription on the spine to be viewed when the dagger is sheathed. Beginning of the 18th century. Minor repair to one grip terminal, wootz pattern on mounts is very faint. Overall length 36cm. Condition II
