Description
The hilt of characteristic form, with offset horn grips terminating in a flat brass pommel and brass guard bead terinals and narrow langets. Mounted with a Persian blade, broad and of moderate curvature with narrow central fuller and a series of short grooves at the spine with back edge, inscribed at the forte in two chiseled cartouches invoking the names of Muhammad and ‘Ali, and retaining small amounts of gold inlay and some original sharpness. Second half of the 18th century or later. Well worn overall, blade with areas of pitting. Overall length 88.8cm. Condition III
