Description
Rarely encountered, an Edo-era samurai mail armor, comprising a helmet, coat and gauntlets. The coat with half sleeves, padded and lined with cotton, the helmet, likewise composed of mail with openwork at the lower edge. The gauntlets with individual fingers and thumbs. Providing excellent, portable and concealable protection for a swordsman. Latter 17th century. Minor areas of rusting, lining well worn. Overall length of coat from nape to hem 59cm. Condition III
