Description
Endemic to the Murut People of North Kalimantan, the carved wooden hilt with characteristic bifurcate pommel retaining much original woven wicker covering, and lengthy brass ferrule terminating in a circular guard with profiled edges. The long, curved blade of flattened wedge section with radiused tip, showing undulating layered forging. In its wooden scabbard with incised panels and brass and steel mounts, together with a hide sheath for a by-knife and waist cord. First half off the 19th century. Worn overall. Overall length 91cm. Condition III
