Description
An early form of saif with distinctive hilt of tombak or gilded copper, elaborately engraved overall. The characteristic grip with three quillons and a knucklebow. The long, curved well-fullered blade with raised yelman or back edge. 17th-18th century. Well worn overall. This form is attested from the early 17th century, appearing in a number of English portraits including that of Tobias Blosse, Ipswich Museum and Art Gallery, UK dating c. 1617.
