Description
A seldom-encountered and massive example, a private purchase weapon for an officer, showing many innovations including a distinctive angled brass pommel recollecting earlier husarska forms, an ebony grip carved with four ribbed panels, and a pierced brass guard showing the strong French influence so popular in latter 18th century Polish work, with rolled front quillon and tiny curled guard to the right side. The deeply curved blade finely wrought with narrow back fuller, with small a cross incised at the forte. Retain its felt washer. Second half of the 18th century. Minor wear. Overall length 93.5cm. Condition II
