A rare example, possibly made for an Ottoman officer. The paneled grips with original black leather covering and silver pommel, the guard wrought of wootz with applied gilded silver quillons engraved with tulips en suite with the engraved silver tangband. The fine, broad heirloom blade of moderate curvature with elegant taper toward the tip, forged of Syrian wootz and inlaid at the right forte in a cartouche, YA MALEK AL MULK (O KING OF THE DOMINION!). In its leather-covered wooden scabbard retaining the spring lock, the steel mounts with some original gold inlay and wire-wrapped seam. First half of the 18th century. Overall length 96cm. Studs from one side of grip lacking, minor wear. Condition III
