Description
An exceptionally fine example, the coconut body superbly carved overall in vinework and mounted in hallmarked silver. Many such coconuts were carved by French prisoners of war loyal to Napoleon following his surrender in 1815. They were then sent to Paris and sold for what they would bring in order to support the prisoners and their families. Early 19th century. Minor losses to silver parts. Overall length 15cm. Condition II
