Mounted entirely in carved and gilt and crimson lacquered wood, the grip with detailed monster head pommel and broad guard with knucklebow, the heirloom blade handwrought and single-edged with brass mount at the base and Chinese (?) inscription. In its finely-carved and lacquered scabbard. Mid-19th century. Well worn, minor period repairs, blade with areas of pitting. Overall length 84cm. Condition III
