Description
Northern Greek work dating to the War of Independence. Of classic form, the grip of octagonal section composed of horn, and embellished with twisted brass wire and studs with mother of pearl disks, the bolsters, blade reinforces and tangbands of engraved silver, the tangband with a series of anchors, an example of occluded Orthodox symbolism (Acts 27:29) under the Ottoman yoke. The handwrought, single-edged and lightly-recurved blade with profiled spine and very finely fullered. The leather-covered scabbard terminating in a silver finial. Blade age darkened. Overall length 35cm. Condition III
