Description
Wrought entirely of steel, the characteristic waisted grip finely inlaid with gold vinework and inscribed with Russian characters on either side, likely initials, B D, with a cross between. The curved, double-edged blade forged of Persian black wootz, with chiseled panel at either side of the forte with a chiseled lion hunting with gold-inlaid eye and strong central rib. In its leather-covered scabbard. Mid-19th century. Likely made for an Imperial Russian officer posted in Tehran. Blade with areas of pitting, scabbard lacks some leather and tip. Overall length 34cm.
