Description
An unusually early, dated example of high quality. The hilt mounted in silver with grips carved of large, variegated slabs of agate, and finely faceted, with angular pommel. The fine, long blade with pronounced yelmen or back edge of hollowground section, and wrought of bands of Turkish rose or twistcore damascus steel. True inlaid in gold at either forte in gold, on the right. YA ALLAH! and on the left, OWNER RIADAN SA’BAN (?) together with the date 1155 a.h. (1741/2 c.e.) Dated 1741/2 c.e. Overall length 93cm. Minor wear, stable cracks to grips. Condition III
